3D Stereoscopic
Project Type
Photography
Date
April 2023
Ever since primary school in Bristol in the 1960s I remember being allowed to explore the world through a collection of photographs in 3D with a hand-held viewer. I have retained the fascination with these immersive images and have been thrilled to find my work with antique cameras and processes has a close tie to 3D - Stereoscopic photography. I found an Eastman Blair Hawkeye camera dating from around 1908. Originally designed to take a roll of film, one roll would hold 4 stereo images, I use use sheet film, one piece for each stereo image, changing the film over in a changing bag. The shutter operates by a lever or by air pressure with a rubber bulb and tube attached. Images are 2 1⁄4” x 2 1⁄4”. F stops 8 to 45, shutter speeds 1s, 1⁄2, 1⁄5, 1/25 1/50, 1/100, B and T.
